A charming trinity!
It’s accelerating at a different speed, this vegan movement. And what better way to bring in the festive season than by celebrating Ahimsa. A philosophy deeply rooted in India’s cultural past, forgotten but not lost. A small group of individuals (Ahimsa Parmo Dharma group) are selflessly working towards bringing a change and hope for the animals, the environment and the people and are organizing an extraordinary Ahimsa (vegan) Festival this year.
The Ahimsa Festival will be India’s biggest vegan festival that spans over 18 days with talks by eminent speakers from around the world (Will Tuttle, Maneka Gandhi and the likes), food cooking workshops by well-known nutritionists and bakers from across India, potlucks (for you to taste delicious vegan food), film screenings at various locations in Mumbai (Okja being one of them), events at vegan friendly cafes and venues, and the finale is on the 12th November at Khar from 9 am to 10 pm.
The magnitude of the festival is significant, with over a 100 volunteers working with the core team that includes organisations like Peta India, SHARAN and FIAPO. Stalls are getting booked faster by the day; and over 150 stalls from across India are expected to participate. Imagine a gastronomical joyride with food stalls selling cheese (yes, vegan), cakes, mock meat, ice-creams, vegan tea/coffee and so much more. Vegan lifestyle products will be exhibited as well, with a vegan fashion show (curated by The Eco Trunk) that highlights cruelty-free choices for cosmetics, clothing and accessories.
The Ahimsa Festival will be held at M M Pupil’s Own School, S V Road, Next to Khar Police Station, Khar West, Mumbai 400052 on 12th November. To book a stall: email – firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Their website is getting ready this week and we will update it once its live.

A delicious, carefully-curated list of 9 burgers and 2 desserts sit pretty on the menu and are sure to get the vegans and vegetarians in the city excited! Natural Organic World (NOW) –India’s first fully organic salon:
When co-founder Heetika Shah was just a little girl, she was introduced to the world of natural, organic living by her grandfather, a scientist and a naturopath. She went on to study Naturopathy and Alternative Medicine before starting her own venture with her mother, Larra Shah (Founder of the salon and a doctor). NOW boasts of unique concoctions using organic farm-sourced, fresh hand-crushed fruits and herbs to suit different client needs for therapies in-house – example acne, hair fall, skin treatments, hair treatments, bridal packages etc. They also offer haircuts and organic hair coloring with Browns, Reds and Blacks being the primary shades available that can be mixed for a different hue.
Heetika explains that using products with chemicals is harmful, as it takes only 25 seconds to absorb in the blood stream and that should alarm anyone using products that are not organic and natural. At the salon, almond milk is used instead of regular milk for (some) treatments. The salon does not believe in testing on animals and all their in-house retail products are cruelty-free and vegan.
